Bell's Palsy




Bell's Palsy is a condition in which there is a union of the fascial nurve and resultant paralysis i the muscles that if supplies.



 The main muscle which are affected as follows

  • occipitals frontalis-Raises eye brow
  • orbicularis oculi-Closes eye
  • Buccinator-Mastication or sucking
  • Orbicularis oris-Mouth closing
  • Mentalis-Wrinkles of chin.

  • Causes: cause is unknown.It can occur at any age.Both male and female may  affected.Some factors may involved.Cold weather,ear  ache,due to neurological condition.
  • Sign and symtome: 
  • Sudden onset
  • Often wake up with paralysis with ear ache
  • Loss of fascial expiration
  • Droping of the face
  • Closing  eye is difficulties
  • Chewing is difficult
  • Mastication is difficuit
  • Speaking is difficult
  • Eyelities may occur
  • Headache
  • Earache
  • difficult ballowning of mouth.
Pathology:
Fascial nerve become swallen and hypermie within the fascial cannel

                  
The nerve rapidly becomes compressed and the conductivity is losed.

Prognosis:
5o% recover within 3 months.
             
                                         
  •  Aim and treatment:
  • To relief pain-Ultra-sound over the fasial cannel in pulsed mode.
  • Fascial muscle comducting use TENS
  • IRR to reduce ear and neck pain.(eye must be covered)
  •  Fascial exercise:
  • Upward  direction.
  • Assisted contraction exercise: nasal contraction, eye brow contraction,fascial nerve contraction,closing and opening of eyes,whitlstelling,sucking or drawing water with straw,ballowning.
  • Patient advise:To do the exercise every 2 hourly-
  • Use sunglass
  • Avoid cold
  • Fascial stimulator for those who are have parmanent paralysis.
